Private insurance companies usually offer more varied types of plans, but it is possible to occasionally customize a plan. In large groups and families, insurance companies are often willing to customize a health plan that makes affordable family health insurance a reality. Family members can often get specialized benefits, such as infertility treatment plans and maternity coverage, that are often not included in traditional insurance plan, for the same price. Also, in an employer's group health plan, the employer may elect to no longer offer insurance coverage as a benefit to employees. This is becoming more common as health care costs increase, and the economy dives deeper into a recession.
